The sakura, or cherry blossom, bursts forth brightly and beautifully in the spring but quickly falls. History teaches us that there is no greater glory for a samurai warrior than to fall in battle in a field of cherry blossoms. Our Spring Sakura Katana represents this beautiful Japanese metaphor for the transience of life. Blackened fuchi, kashira, and ornate stainless steel cherry blossom tsuba accent the 27" forged and heart-hardened blade.
The forged 5160 high carbon steel blade features a 1 ½" kissaki (tip) and is ground to an edge hardness of 57HRc with blade geometry conducive to rigorous cutting without chipping or warping on soft and semi-hard targets. Contrasted by the crimson tsuka-ito (handle wrap), the same white (ray skin) on the wooden handle, the serrated seppa (spacers), silver habaki (blade collar) and cherry blossom menuki (handle ornaments), represent the only striking aspects of this sobering piece. The black lacquered saya (scabbard) features a buffalo horn-edged koiguchi (scabbard mouth) and a wooden kurikata (knob) with a black sageo (cord).
